Link: A New 'full body wash'
A New 'full body wash' is to be handed out to patients at Scunthorpe General Hospital in a bid to get to grips with the rise in superbug infections. The wash, called Skinsan, will be given to those going in to hospital for medical treatment, along with instructions on how to use it.The move comes following a report by the Scunthorpe Telegraph in May which revealed how 543 people locally had contracted superbug Clostridium Difficile. When the figures were released, North Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital Trust, which runs Scunthorpe General Hospital, admitted the number of hospital infections were on the rise and pledged its commitment to tackle the problem. The new body wash, specifically designed to kill MRSA, is a step towards reducing the number of people getting the killer bug. It is a special antibacterial wash to be used instead of soap or shower gel for patients in hospital, and is better designed to wipe out the bug because it continues to work after washing unlike normal soap. Normal soap can also be a breeding ground for bugs. Dr Liz Scott, medical director, said the new regime should be followed by all patients admitted to wards.
