ADDENBROOKE'S Hospital has settled a compensation claim to a patient who contracted superbug MRSA. The NHS Litigation Authority has revealed there have been 68 cases nationally since April 2002, costing the NHS more than £8 million - and one of those claims was against Addenbrooke's. A spokeswoman for the hospital said: "We have only had one such claim in the last five years, which was settled for a relatively small sum. "In the last year nothing has had higher priority for the hospital than improving our performance in tackling hospital-acquired infections. "We have achieved a significant reduction in Clostridium difficile, and a steady decrease in MRSA infections. "We want to see this improve further and faster, and so we are committed to continuing to work hard at reducing infections.
