Virulent bug kills two hospital patients

      Two patients in an intensive care unit died after catching a highly virulent hospital bug, it has been revealed. One person in the adult cardiac unit at Glenfield Hospital, in Leicestershire, died last month after contracting Clostridium difficile, or C Diff, said the hospital's Trust. A second patient in the ICU diagnosed with the diarrhoea illness passed away over the Bank Holiday weekend after undergoing bowel surgery to tackle the infection. It is yet to be established whether C Diff was a factor in either death, said a University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust spokeswoman today.
