But high doses of antibiotics led to Alan developing bacterial virus Clostridium. He was again treated with antibiotics but insisted on being released early to spend New Year's Eve with his wife. Alan threw himself into rehabilitation, which started in spring 2004, and was inspired by other people at the clinic.
